Police don't yet come after home burglary?

Could you pls advise?

A friend of mine is renting a flat. He has just returned from holiday and found someone had broken into the flat and took everything.

He reported the burglary to the police, but after 48 hours, the police have not yet come. When he called, the police said they were too busy to come now.

Meanwhile, he also called the landlord, who does not seem to be sympathetic.

Is there anything my friend should do now to avoid any problem in the future, including any legal problem with the landlord?

My house was burgled last Monday - they gave me a crime number and told me to call my insurance. They said they would "try and come out at some point in the next few weeks" to talk to neighbors, check cctv etc

How did they get in? If they've forced entry the landlord needs to sort out securing the property ASAP.

He needs to call them back and see if they've generated a crime reference number yet, and ask if forensics are going to be dusting for prints so he doesn't disturb any evidence.

Unfortunately with all the cutbacks police are pretty much only able to deal with urgent crimes so it may be a while before someone comes out.

The police probably won't come. He needs to get a crime number from them and call his insurance people. He also needs to give the landlord the crime number and information about any damage to the property. If anything needs fixing i.e windows/doors etc he needs to tell the landlord about this as well and get a date when it will be fixed. If it leaves his house unsecured it should be fixed straight away. Don't wait for the police they can't really do anything practical to help and even if they find out who did it by some miracle all of the above would need doing anyway.
