Foisty dishwasher

Dishwasher is about 4 months old and is smelling a bit foisty. We clean it regularly, including the filter but I've noticed a smell this last week or so. I also ran an empty wash with soda crystals instead of tablets, but it hasn't seemed to help.I don't want to use one of those lemon freshener things, because I find they just add a fake lemon scent on top of the foist and I swear I can taste it on my cup afterwards.
Any hints or tips? It's our first dishwasher so we could be missing something very obvious.

Use a proper dishwasher cleaner that you put through it without any dishes in. Aldi sell one as a twin pack. Clean the seals.

I have the same problem with my 6 month old Miele dishwasher. Used a Finish dishwasher cleaner on an empty cycle, cleaned the filter and all the seals. Smelled lovely at first, but within less than a week the smell is back!

Bought a Miele as I thought it would be better regarding smells, but this problem is driving me potty!

Ecozone make a dishwasher cleaner tablet which seems to work quite well. It's basically citric acid. I buy it in Waitrose, or on Ocado, but I think Holland & Barrett, Homebase and B&Q sell it too. You run it through on the hottest wash - usually 70 degrees - and it brings everything up all sparkly, and no smell. I do it about once every couple of months to keep the thing clean - we have one of those awful dish-drawer things and it's forever clogging up.

That said, I find I have to use the hot wash setting permanently otherwise stuff just doesn't get clean. Do you run it on the eco setting? If so it may not be getting hot enough to get properly clean.

I do run it on eco. I washed down all the seals, etc yesterday, did a hot wash with soda crystals and just a small bowl of vinegar in it. I also filled the sink with hot water and more soda crystals, and drained the sink at the same time as the dishwasher was draining. At the moment it smells fine, but I'll get some of that dishwasher clean next time I'm in Aldi and do the same next month.

Asda sell a dishwasher cleaner in a bottle - you put it in the machine and run a cycle on empty. Very cheap and worked for us. As did Zoflora - couple of capfuls in the drawer is all you need!
