Dropped a Kettle Descaler in the Sink - Bacteria Risk?

I dropped a wire kettle descaler into the kitchen sink just now. I washed it under boiling water and put it back in the kettle but now I'm worried that I've just transferred a load of bacteria into the kettle. Am I worrying unnecessarily?

Yes. Very much so.

Nothing will survive the first boiling. I'd fill the kettle, boil it, then discard that first lot of water, then use it normally.

Won't it be boiled when you turn the kettle on? Bacteria - well the kind that might lurk in your sink anyway - won't survive that.

It wouldn't even have entered my head to be concerned about it....

Surely you wash up in your sink? So it should be kept pretty bacteria free anyway?
