Daybeds

Hi has anyone know the lowdown on daybeds? This is the style I'm after, with what I now know is called a trundle underneath, to pull out to make a separate single.

I've looked at loads online, some are suspiciously cheap, like the one above. I don't know which brick adm mortar shops would have have these so can't check a load out in person.

Would love to hear any comments if you have this type of bed. It would be for the spare room for very occasional use only when my son has a friend to sleep over. I'm spending too much on air beds! Thanks in advance.

Would IKEA have something like that?

Synecdoche · 29/06/2017 23:45

I have this one: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00LOEQX0M/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's out of stock now but they might have something similar or find it elsewhere on the internet. It's done really well - had it 2/3 years and all our guests find it comfy!

Flyinggeese · 29/06/2017 23:47

Hi Spongebob, I thought they would (they used to) but they don't have this style. Thanks though.

Oh yes they are still selling the 3ft one - £189ish including mattresses.

Thanks Synecdoche do you mind me asking, was it quite inexpensive, I.e. £low hundreds? Slatted base?

I'm seeing a few that kind of price, and the one you linked looks of that type. I like the look of those. Good to know it's been OK and comfy.

X post. Wow excellent price!

I have one of those. We got two really good single mattresses and I will actively choose to sleep on the daybed rather than my own. Superbly comfortable - it's a sofa made up as a single bed by day, and a twin or very comfy double by night. We've had really positive comments about it from visitors, and I love it.

Flyinggeese · 29/06/2017 23:57

Thanks Mercian. Did you need to get specialist mattresses, I.e. thinner than usual to fit the trundle underneath?

OP posts:
MercianQueen · 30/06/2017 07:11

No, normal mattresses fit. Just bear in mind it gives you a super king double so we needed new bedding!

Flyinggeese · 30/06/2017 07:39

Ah yes that makes sense. I'd want it to make 2 singles so that's all Ok.

Thanks.

We got one like that and it's surprisingly good. The slats are a bit flimsy though so wouldn't cope with everyday use if that involves getting jumped on etc.

Flyinggeese · 30/06/2017 08:01

I've seen ones where the trundle bed is on wheels as opposed to legs that you fold out. Maybe they'd be sturdier?

It would be for use by tallish teenagers. They won't bounce on it but they're not small children so would need to take adult-type weight.

I'm convinced now I'm on the right lines with these beds. Thanks for the replies. It's a gamble buying off the internet.

My dd has one fron the range. It came with a standard mattress and it's honestly the comfiest bed I have slept in.

Flyinggeese · 01/07/2017 10:47

pud thanks for posting. I've been looking at The Range's site...

Think I'll go for it and get one.

Dd has the Emily day bed from Laura Ashley - mattresses are excellent quality and very comfortable , slated bedstead. We have been very pleased. But not cheap!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 03/07/2017 10:57

We had this exact bed for DDs room and it was great! Got it off an EBay company and it was cheap too! The slats were thinnish and in the four years we had it, one slat got broke by some over zealous jumping from the six yr old! It was fine for all shape and size of adults too! HTH!

seventhgonickname · 05/07/2017 23:02

We have a wooden day bed from Ikea,it has three big drawers under and the whole base pulls out smoothly to make double bed which is nice and comfort. We use it in out small spare bedroom where it is used as is by single visitors who all say it is comfy.
