Smelly carpet

Truth is, the lounge carpet could do with a really good professional clean BUT as I'm trying desperately to save cash for other things it's too far down on my list of priorities right now.
Can anyone suggest a good Kim & Aggy style home remedy to freshen it up on the cheap?!

Sprinkle bicarb of soda on there. Leave for an hour or so then hoover up. Should help freshen it.

sprinkle on bio washing powder and brush it in a little.

hoover off after a few hours.

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda liberally over carpet then hoover it up. Bicarb is an excellent odour absorber - worked really we on a patch of carpet DS vommed on.

Ooh that's easy enough, I've got bicarb in anyway. Will try that first and then follow up with washing powder for good measure. And will keep in mind for future DC vom episodes! Thanks!
