30 day clear out challenge - anyone want to join me?

Starting today I'm going to do a mini purge before the kids break up for summer.

I got made redundant in August so I'm finally going to get rid of my old work clothes. I have four young kids and I'm not planning to go back to work until my youngest starts school next September

At least one thing a day! First to go is my 16 year old suit!

I'm reading and cheering you on!

I'm a hoarder, and am hoping that if I start posting about it, I'll start tackling it.

GosiaP · 21/06/2017 00:15

I like it, might join you. I still have clothes from over 10 years ago I keep "in case they magically fit me again". With my first baby coming soon I need to free up the some space. Great idea!

HunterCatsSlave · 21/06/2017 17:51

Count me in. I've written a list of areas I want to clear and a half hearted timescale to do it in. Will fine-tune this and get cracking, although the heat is really getting to me. Some days I will be able to do more than others due to work and taxiing the kids in the evenings. But other days I will get a couple of smaller areas done.

My goal is to be finished by the 21st July. Just in time for the summer holidays. 😀

AuntieStella · 21/06/2017 22:41

Rather hot and uninspired today.

But did get rid of several pairs of old specs (mainly DH's) to the charity box at the opticians when I picked my new ones up, and have bagged up some outgrown school uniform for the second hand sale (can drop that off tomorrow)

DownUdderer · 22/06/2017 08:56

I'm decluttering at the moment. I did kids artwork today, I needed to get rid of loads while they were out!! We get snowed under with it!

user1495915742 · 22/06/2017 09:35

I'm doing this.

As I get rid of things I find it is easier to get rid of more things. Have been selling stuff on eBay and the PayPal balance is looking healthy. I'm using that to buy some naice things I've wanted/needed for a while.

GosiaP · 22/06/2017 11:46

I'm liking the idea of selling things. I've never done it but some of the stuff I don't need is too good to be binned!!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 22/06/2017 18:53

we might be downsizing this summer (if not this year, then next year), so I'm in for a massive clearout - 17 years in this house, with stuff in the loft which moved from the previous loft like DH's university notes which are bound to come in useful one of these days, as obviously it's not all online nowadays.

I like the principles of Kon Mari - ie look for the things you actively want to keep, rather than look for the things to get rid of, then you get rid of everything which hasn't made your "I love this/I need this" list. It's not really necessary to thank your socks and say goodbye to the faded, ripped Tshirt, though don't let me stop you if you feel you want to Grin.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 22/06/2017 18:54

I'll add one and a half skip sized Hippobags from the garage, plus two scooters, a trike and two bikes to my starting list (cheating a bit as that was mostly from last week, and mostly sorted by DD Wink)

eeniemeenieminiemoe2014 · 22/06/2017 21:49

I will join you. My aim is a bin bag a day for 30 days!

MrsBennettsNerves · 23/06/2017 07:32

I'm in. Though I'm not as optimistic as eeniemeenie - I'll aim for a carrier bag a day.

DownUdderer · 24/06/2017 07:38

I've lost some momentum. But dh is keen to purge some of his stuff so that's good:)

MrsBennettsNerves · 25/06/2017 09:21

Carrier bag of clothes to the charity shop Friday, and a small bag of toys stashed away to see if the children notice they're gone...

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 25/06/2017 09:30

two boxes of crockery and glasses to the charity shop, another box worth of broken and chipped stuff in the bin. Today's job will be offcuts of wood from the garage in between rainshowers, need to get the hippobag filled so it stops ruining the grass.

StaciesMom · 25/06/2017 12:32

Count me in.

I am a horder of clothes (mainly) sometimes in the hope I fit back into them. They remind me of the person I hope to project outwardly which I guess means I'm not happy with myself inside 😞 so purge it is and learning to love myself x

DownUdderer · 26/06/2017 05:06

Filled a black bin liner with stuff for the bin from the front room! Yey! I've also been really putting the pedal (of my sewing machine) to the metal and have been sewing loads the last few days it's my favourite hobby and I feel like the decluttering has lifted my spirits:)

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 27/06/2017 16:30

so 7 days in, and I've cleared DD has cleared the garage except for the shelves and round the edges and under the workbench; all the kitchen cupboards apart from the food ones; my inbox; the vases shelf (how is it possible to have so many vases when I only get flowers on mothers day and valentines day?).

DH has two more boxes for the charity shop (he drives, I don't atm), and the bin is three quarters full (collection on Friday). Need to find some more stuff to chuck out Smile

DownUdderer · 30/06/2017 05:19

I need to sort quite a bit more this weekend. I just need a kick up the bum :)

ohamIreally · 30/06/2017 05:34

Ok I'm up for it. Have been doing a bag a week to the charity shop but lost momentum. Will have to get harder on myself (it's unlikely I'll fit into those size 8 clothes EVER again for instance Smile)
