Help me get rid of this mystery stain...

I washed and lovingy ironed my beige mac (cotton) the other week and didn't notice a stain but then (of course, at the point where I went to put it on thinking ooh it'll be warm today but it's cold in the mornings on them there train platforms) I noticed a stain. On closer examination there are actually two stains.

It looks like something greasy. The stain has no colour in itself - it would be as if pure sunflower oil for example had gotten onto the coat.

So I thought right, grease, that needs a detergent so I soaked it with washing up liquid for a couple of hours - no real action on the stain. Then I thought let's go with old reliable baking powder - again, no real effect. Then I sprinkled it with laundry powder and left it - again, that didn't get rid of the stain either.

Any ideas on what else I can try??!

You could try ironing the stain but have a piece of brown paper between the stain and the iron. Theory is that the paper absorbs the hot grease. Worth a try if all else has failed.

Try a stain remover for greasy stains. I got a mystery stain out of a shirt after about 10 different attempts with a Dr Beckmann one.

Thanks, I'll give these a go and let you know how I get on! God knows where they came from.
