Vacuum cleaner that will both wash carpets AND cope with pet hair?

Does anyone have any recommendations or know what to avoid in terms of a vacuum cleaner that will both shampoo carpets AND vacuum up pet hair? My Dyson Animal is no longer cutting it... can't even hoover up sock fluff, so god knows what else it's missing. (And yes, I have cleaned filters, brushes, checked tubes, etc.)

I want to replace it, but would quite like something I can shampoo the carpets with now and then, as well as regular vacuuming. I'd thought about a George, but am reading it's not so good at pet hair on thick carpet. Nothing seems ideal for both. I also have two armchairs covered in a wool-rich fabric and cat hair seem so to stick to it like Velcro. Any suggestions?

The problem is that all the vacs that wash and dry are cylinders, which don't tend to cope too well with pet hair.

George would be the best option, but I would get the optional turbo brush to go with it, which will easily pick up pet hair from carpets
