Vanish stain remover has caused a stain!

Help, baby was sick on my white sleepyhead pod. I sprayed some vanish on it and put it in the washing machine. Only now where the sick was is a massive yellow stain, it's definitely caused by the vanish as there's spray marks elsewhere on the fabric.

Why has it turned it yellow? I understand Vanish can strip colour but to make something white turn yellow?!

Any tips? Thank you

It's the effect of the bleaching agents in the Vanish. Is the fabric polycotton or some other manmade fibre and cotton? If you put it in sunlight somewhere, inside on a window ledge will do (if it ever stops raining) that may get rid of the yellow mark.

Lemon juice should do the trick

I stupidly did the same thing too. After using Vanish Oxi Action Spray you can’t hang items in direct sunlight or direct heat! Stay away from this horrid stuff and use the Vanish Soap instead or Ace bleach.

I used Dylon Brilliant White Repair with Stain Remover on my daughter’s designer tops! I soaked for 5-6 hours as stated in the box. I was so annoyed with myself but this worked and no more horrid yellow stain. It doesn’t damage items with coloured logos on the, but try keep any metal work out of the water as it could react or rust etc.

I did the same stupid thing last year and had to bin those tops as nothing worked and at the time I used so many products I didn’t know what caused it. This time it was two so I knew.

I really hope that helps! Wish I knew last year!

I stupidly used vanish oxy action on my 1 month old white doona cover. After washing the cover when it was drying on the line big bright yellow stains appeared. After contacting the company and waiting nearly 2 months for a reply, they advised me nothing could be done because the cover wasn’t colour safe The cover is white the product states it’s colour safe. I would advise everyone never to use this disgusting product

Hi Chopalina,
Did the Dylon Brilliant White remove the yellow stain caused by the vanish?

Yellow stain on my white sheet. After using vanish. How can I get it out ?

wowfudge · 07/07/2024 15:56

Try hanging it in sunshine - even sunlight inside on a window ledge can remove stains.

I think it's the sunlight that causes the yellowing!

(I think you are right about the sun . )
I have an expensive duvet cover back from the laundry covered in yellow patches - not helpful at all and said they’ve washed it twice . I think that it is incorrect use of their stain remover / whitening additive ( too much / not rinsed properly) . Can’t use it but want to try and see if I can improve it at all - has anyone had luck with removing a bulk stain area please ? Don’t think using Vanish Whitening / stain remover is the way forward ? Hot wash at 60 degrees ? 😥
