Olive oil stain on top

MaryPlain59 · 07/06/2017 06:50

I spilt some olive oil on a favourite cotton sweatshirt, I sprayed Ace stain remover on it before washing in the machine but the stain was still there so I put some more Ace on and washed again but the stain is still there - can anyone suggest anything else I can do to remove it please?

Ive removed oil before by rubbing talc into it (lots and vigorously) then washing as normal. Its worth a shot

Do both sides

I usually do the old school method of rubbing with washing up liquid - but not sure that will work if you've already washed it

Washing up liquid should still work. I've done this before with DH's trousers.

I got a few splatters of oil on a top when I was cooking and washed it really quickly but it didn't come out. And then I washed it again with a scoop of vanish oxi action and it came out.

Thanks so much to you all for replying, I am a bit worried that I have 'set' the stain permanently now by washing it but it did'nt occur to me that I should try anything else rather than the Ace before washing as thst's what I always use so just did it automatically, I am kicking myself now.

squirt a bit of fairy liquid onto both sides, give it a rub in, then wash it.You might need to repeat this a couple of times.

I would rub talc in before the clothes were washed first time, so I will be interested to see if that will work on your stain (it wouldn't occur to me to do it twice) Blush

(I'm late to the fairy liquid gang!)

Dr Beckmann stain remover is fab. There are 3, I've used the oil one and the red wine one a lot!!!

Thanks so much for such helpful suggestions x Just wanted to ask about the talc you are mentioning as I haven't heard of that as a method for stains before, can you use any kind of talc (I have got an M&S rose scented one) or does it need to be a partucular type?

Any talc will do Smile

Green household soap (Morrison's sell it, prob other supermarkets too, it's really cheap), rub it into the stain before you wash it. Works well for me, even on oil stains that have been washed and dried.

Thank you all so much, you have been really helpful and I appreciate it so much. I am going to give it all a go one by one, it will be worth persevering to be able to keep the sweatshirt if the stain goes.
