Melted plastic on oven shelves - how do I get rid of it??

My children were 'making cakes' with their plastic pots and later on my husband made dinner without checking the oven!! Now I have oven shelves with melted plastic all over the rungs. Help - what do I do?? I can only think sandpaper - but would love to hear any better ideas....

I would put the oven on again and warm the plastic up and then try to peel off using pliers or tweezers ( and oven gloves!)
