Help. I'm a recent convert and have just replaced the bag and filter for first time. In the pack of replacement stuff there are these red things. Where do they go?? I can't seem to find any mention of them in the instructions. Come to my aid, o wise MNetters.

I think they're just smelly things that make it smell "nice", so drop 1 in the new bag and it will smell like air freshener when it's on.

The good thing about the proper Miele bags is that you can cram them full and it won't cause the suction to drop. But the downside is that they can sometimes wiff a bit especially if you have pets.

Thanks rabbit. I'll pop one in the bag. Just found it baffling that they don't seem to be mentioned anywhere on the instructions. Have to say that so far it's the best vacuum we've ever owned.

Yes thank you Mumsnet for reminding me that this thread has not been active since June 2017 but I saw this post earlier today when I was trying to find information so wanted to post an update. The fresheners that some suppliers are packaging with the Miele official dustbags I've been told by Miele UK customer services that they are NOT compatible with their appliances and should not be used. Looking elsewhere online some YouTube videos suggest they can be used either in the bag or as part of the exhaust port but customer rep from Miele was very adamant about not using them. Hope this post helps others.
