I didn't see it, but basically someone posts to describe a housekeeping problem, then pops back under another name to recommend their fantastic solution. You start to recognise the pattern...

There have been about 15 of these bloody stupid posts today. Most of the spammers just change username to reply with a link. Rinse and repeat and change name so the same handful of names are doing all the posting. Meanwhile genuine posters offer advice then get hacked off when the thread is removed.

But MN aren't removing the whole thread, just the OP and the link reply, so I have just clicked on three separate threads to be met with deleted OPs. Very annoying, wish they would just bin the whole thread.

That makes so much more sense now! I couldn't understand why op and random responses were getting deleted. Must be a pain in the neck for hq to sort through.
