Ariel have turned my whites blue!!!

I always use Ariel 2in1 pods for myself, but I don't ever have whites to wash. (I basically wear black and colours exclusively)

I've recently bought some white things including a reasonably expensive white t shirt. Today I put a load of whites in on a normal wash with the ariel pod and they've all come out tinged with blue, even worse the seams of t shirts are quite obviously blue! I'm furious - nowhere on the box does it say not suitable for whites and i'm presuming its the dark blue stain remover thats dyed everything blue.

HELP! I've currently put them up to dry but I don't think its going to look any better when dry, and I can't bleach them back to white as some things have a slight trim of light pink etc.

Hmm, strange. The blue may be what is known as "bluing" - it's a chemical added to most detergents, as a blue whitener, it makes whites look whiter.

But because there is too much blue - as in it has stained your clothes blue (instead of a barely perceptible blue hue on the clothing), it could be that the one pod was simply too much for the amount of clothing being washed. To be honest, pods are a no go anyway.

Would suggest a soak in a bucket with water with a scoop of vanish, or standard washing powder. If the items are pure cotton and have no designs/motifs on them, you could soak in water with a few caps of bleach - this will remove it.

If not, would recommend contacting Proctor and Gamble (the makers of Ariel), and they will assist.

Ah sorry, can see the last line about bleaching.

Although, I have soaked white clothing with coloured motifs on it many times, and the colour hasn't been affected, so it may be something you could try (it would be a risk in any case though). Would just make sure the bleach is fully dissolved in the water before adding the garment.

It sounds like the dye used in the liquid has stained.
Don't use liquids or pods on whites, use powder.

To try and get the blue out I would put them on another wash without any form of washing powder/ liquid.

If still not white after that try washing again with two cups of soda crystals in the wash but again no washing powder/liquid.

If still no luck call company and complain. They should replace the clothes, if they can't be re-whitened.

In future I would recommend daz powder and soda crystals for whites.

Before doing any remedial washes, first contact Customer Services for their advice on how to proceed.

Take pictures before any further washing so, if necessary, you can demonstrate the original blue colour.

Seeing as your machine only ever washes darks and a bit of colour, I think the blue dye problem is leftover 'indigo dye' used to dye nearly all black and blue denim that is in your washer from a previous wash. Soak your whites in a biological powder containing oxygen bleach and then hang them out in the sun, the UV rays have a really effective yet natural bleaching effect.

I've just had the same problem with Ariel 3 in 1 pods. Did anyone ever contact the manufacturer (P&D) about this, and what was the outcome please? It was only on the second load of whites that I thought something wasn't right, and googled it!

Oh no!!! This has just happened to me too!!! And with brand new towels from The White Company Grrrr!!! Did anyone find a solution? Or contact the company? I’m so upset, the towels are ruined... I’ve washed 3x but it not budging! Any help, greatly appreciated

I only ever use white fabric softener for this reason. I heard it can eventually turn whites blue.
