How do you clean your shaggy rug?

I have a thick long pile shaggy rug that traps grit and dirt and anything that drops on it! It's too big and heavy for me to pick up and shake out properly and the pile is too long to vacuum. Has anyone got any tips on how to keep it clean?

It seems to do the job - I don't think there is another solution I'd it isn't shareable x

Have you tried rubbing it gently? Some people prefer vigorous rubbing but my rug responds best to gentleness.

I find if you bend your rug over somedthink and give it a firm hand it will respond quite well.

If not, then the suggestion of hands and knees works just as well.

A firm hand, you say. Will try that.

Turn it overcand either vacuum it with an upright or giving a good beating on the backing. That will loosen the bits in the bottom of the rug. Then turn it over and vacuum as normal

I shall try gentle rubbing, then vigourous. If that doesn't work I shall bend it over and give it a firm hand and if all else fails it's getting the hose! Thanks for all your suggestions Smile
