Washing up bowls

I'm male, new here and thought Mumsnet is a good place for feedback to my odd question...
Bought a reasonably priced bowl from my local hardware store.
I have noticed something going on. If I leave the water in it for half a day, then it begins to go gloopy! This was seemingly happening with dirty dishes, wash up liquid added in the water and my LAZINESS of not doing dishes there and then! Later, I would do the dishes in fresh water.
But no! After a while, I've noticed, that just leaving some clean water in the bowl for a few hours, no wash up liqid or dishes, it still goes gloopy!
Whats going on here???
Are some bowls made so badly, they slowly leak chemicals into the water? I'm a little worried that it could be a big health problem!
Anyone else noticed this?

No. Never.
Have you cleaned inside the bowl?!
Their can be a sort of slimy layer of residue left inside. Clean it.

Yep, cleaned bowl, but process repeats in a clean bowl. I rinse dishes with running water, just incase! Usually do dishes after a 3 minute hot soak now, not gonna be lazy anymore!
