Dishwasher Salt

Please Help - I have just had a new Beko dishwasher installed and like an idiot I have put salt in the reservoir before adding water, is this likely to be harmful?

Why can't you just add the water now?

AlskiBrewski · 06/05/2017 16:23

I wondered whether to do that or am I better trying to scoop the salt out and start again, I'm just worried I will cause damage.

It'll be fine. I'm sure I did the same too when I got mine

AutumnEve · 06/05/2017 16:24

How much salt should one put into a dishwasher? I usually just pour 'some' in every month or so.

AutumnEve · 06/05/2017 16:25

Oh and I agree with Alski. Just pour in water now.

dementedpixie · 06/05/2017 16:26

I fill the dispenser until it's full. Water comes out of it as you add the salt and I fill salt to the top

AutumnEve · 06/05/2017 16:32

I tried that once but it never seemed to reach the top. It felt like I was pouring for ever. Are you meant to put the whole bag in?

(The salt dispenser is that bit that you unscrew on the inside base of the dishwasher, right?Confused)

WinnieTheW0rm · 06/05/2017 16:35

It eats more than you think.

I fill when the lights comes on, and it happily consumes at least half a bag (slimline dishwasher). I was a bit alarmed first time I saw water spilling out of the top ...

dementedpixie · 06/05/2017 16:38

It takes loads, maybe up to 3 quarters of a bag. I just keep going until I see it reach the top. And yes it's the bit you unscrew on the floor

Just pour some water in as you'll never get the salt back out again

InaDelerium · 06/05/2017 16:46

Poor water in until it starts to overflow in to the bottom of the dishwasher - it will be absolutely fine.

chickpeaburger · 06/05/2017 17:17

Am I missing something here? Firstly how on earth would you manage to get the salt out, and why would you want to.

Why would you want to "add water." I'm very confused.

dementedpixie · 06/05/2017 17:23

Because the manual tells you to. And in normal operation the salt compartment will contain water plus salt

llangennith · 06/05/2017 19:42

Just run a dishwasher programme and the water will go through it all

wowfudge · 07/05/2017 11:50

Are you in a soft water area? You may not need salt at all.
