Can I have soft fluffy towels without a tumble dryer?

We dry laundry on the line or on a heated airer depending on the weather.

I like a hard, rough, thin towel and DH couldn't care less but DS (7) has been going on about the towel he used in a hotel a few weeks ago, which was a large fluffy bath sheet.

I'd be willing to invest in one but not if it will only stay fluffy if tumble dried.

I'd love to know too!
My gran gave me some lovely soft towels years ago because she hated them - she only liked hard, rough ones as well! :)

I like a hard, rough, thin towel too - can't stand big fluffy ones :)

I hunt for ages for thin towels (have found some nice ones recently)

Buy a brand new big fluffy towel for him. It'll stay soft for quite a while. Wash it with fabric conditioner.

I've never had a tumble dryer, my towels that my Mum bought me from Mackays well over 10 years ago are still pretty soft, maybe not brand spanking new soft but not that far off. I avoid using fabric conditioner on them but sometimes put vinegar in the rinse, if I remember. I try to line dry if possible and give them a really good shake to fluff them up before pegging them out. If I have to dry them indoors I will often give them another shake or two during the drying time when I walk past them.

Our line dried towels start off hard but go a bit soft when they have been used once or twice. Just when they are getting to the fluffiness I like them, they need the wash Sad
