Will dishwasher-ing pans damage hob?

Hi all,

One of my friends has a glass topped electric hob that is scratched to bits. She believes that putting her saucepans in the dishwasher has damaged the bottom of the pans and led to them scratching the hob.

I've got a new induction hob along with some not so fancy m&s pans that have been through the dishwasher several times and the internal coating is fine but I'm worried I can see some marking on the bottom.

Does putting pans in the dishwasher lead to a scratched up hob?

We have an induction job and dishwash all our pans. We've had NO issues at all.

I've had my induction hob for a very long time and there's not a scratch on it.
I wash pans in the dishwasher as well.

Ours have been fine so far - about four months - but I do give the bottom of the pan a quick wipe to make sure there's nothing sharp on it. Also helps to stop water marks if the bottom is dry.

We had a ceramic hob for 12 years and dishwashered all our pots and pans, and there wasn't a scratch on it. What's she using to clean the hob?

That's promising, thanks for all of your responses!

I don't think she's uses anything harsh to clean it, certainly nothing abrasive and it's definitely caused by the bottom of the pans.

I was so worried you were all going to tell me to hand wash them 😖Grin
