Washer dryer question

I was given a rubbish washer dryer second hand so can't complain really. It's Indesit. I've read the instructions and obviously it wants less load for drying vs washing. How do you remove 3kg though, when it moves on to drying automatically?

Also sometimes I just want to wash clothes, but it doesn't have that option, it only lets you wash and dry. Are all brands this rubbish?

Ours has a dial to change the drying setting to none. So it stops after the wash. Took me a while to work this out though, the instructions weren't clear
