Sewer Smell in Bathroom

We live in a rented house and have an awful landlord who ignores maintenance issues. Which is fine as we can normally fix issues ourselves.

However there is a really bad smell coming from the bathroom. It seems to be coming from either the sink or the bath. The smell fills the house when you open the bathroom door. There are no obvious leaks or clogged pipes and I'm at a loss on what to do. Any advice?

Are the U-Bends in your bathroom correct?
i.e - are they there?

Dead mouse on one of the pipes? (Hopefully it's not this!)

Check the shower drain, there should be a thing in the plug that catches hair etc (the plugged should jusybeable to pull up). If it's not put in properly then a drain smell will come up. Happens every time dh cleans it out as he never pushes it/twists it down enough.

We had this - turned out the soil vent pipe on the outside wall was too short, so the drain smells were wafting back through the window. Once we extended the pipe beyond the eaves the smell stopped coming in.

Oh my god what the hell would I do if it was a dead mouse in the pipes??

Tempted to call a plumber and take the hit ourselves for whatever it is. Am hoping it wouldn't be too expensive to fix.

I have tried cleaning and checking drains.

Also, the other day a hot water tap washer was changed because of a leaky tap. Could this have caused the smell at all?

Fill all sinks and bath and release plugs at the same time (ish) plus chain flush. Should dislodge anything blocking the pipes

Am useless with this stuff. The smell has been getting worse all evening.

Or maybe I'm just obsessing more as my frantic bathroom cleaning hasn't worked

I have lived in properties without one fitted!

Stupid question- but what's a U bend? And where should it be? Can you tell I'm rubbish at DIY? Off to google now

Help! It still smells. Estate agent are worse than useless. (Closed anyway because of Good Friday) so if I call a plumber I'm guessing they aren't going to reimburse us but could i get into trouble?

Soda crystals and white vinegar down all the plug holes should do the trick. If you can remove the plugs soak them in a solution of the same.

It may be the trap. Are the sink ,bath and soil pipe connected. We get this sometimes in an upstairs ensuite. It seems to happen due to our low flush toilet and the kids putting down too much toilet tissue - I think it gets a build up somewhere in the pipe and then a vacuum effect on flushing sucks it all down and causes the water in the trap below the bath which keeps smells from wafting back up to empty and get dry. If we run the tap a bit into the bath it seems to stop it. We tried everything - bicarb, drain cleaners, plumber etc but this is what seems to work. If the smell is constant then the trap has probably dislodged and needs replacing.
