Talk to me about skirting boards

How do you keep them clean? We have a new build and every other day i find they are dusty and scuffed. I Hoover the house everyday as we have 3dc and cant gwt away from not Hoover loads due to all the mess the kids make. Any tips would be amazing.

I have 3 DC too. I empathise - my home gets messed up quickly too. But I only hoover downstairs daily ( upstairs less frequently). My skirting boards are often shameful. But my sister in law stayed with a friend recently who wiped all skirting boards with a wet wipe daily (children & guests were handed out wet wipes to do their bits of skirting boards)

Wet wipes are good for all paintwork scuffs.

I just run a duster round them when doing the other dusting, about once a week. If you didn't hoover so often, they might not be as scuffed

Thanks. I was using a microfiber cloth but found it was just moving the dust around? And if i hovered it first the Hoover would leave black scuff marks. We live in a town house so the kitchen is downstairs but living area upstairs so we get mess everywhere

My dh is a painter, I like to borrow his dusting brush when hes not looking its just sooo quick. Usually give them a proper wash down maybe once a month

Oh, I always dust with a slightly damp cloth, stops that moving the dust around thing.

I use a duster brush attachment on a Henry hoover, and I just go round them once a fortnight or so then I use a regular fabric mop - damp with flash and hot water but not wringing wet - and mop the skirting boards. Minimal bending down and pretty quick too.

Same here, in a brand new build and it's amazing how quickly the skirting boards can look "old". All you can do is wipe them down, and paint them when they get beyond looking good after a clean.

Magic eraser is good for those black shoe/hoover scuff marks

Slightly damp cloth is easiest to stop the dust just floating off and then magically reattaching. I agree with the the magic eraser for scuffs and black marks as well, those things are great.

Lived here 7 years a- never felt the need!
