Toilet cleaning

2015mom · 03/04/2017 22:16

Hi I had these yellow streaks inside my toilet which I think it was from the water when it was flushed

I have tried to clean it by leaving bleach on it overnight then cleaning next day but it did not come off.

After scrubbing it with a scourer because the brush never worked the yellow streaks have now turned to grey but have not gone.

Please help me get rid of it

Hunby has hard water at his flat, I send him off with tesco's limescale remover and instructions to leave it over night.

It taken time but does work.

2015mom · 03/04/2017 23:11

Okay thanks I will try that
Will get some from the shop tomorrow

Well I can help with this Grin

Because I spent AGES earlier going through old MN threads after a google and trying a ton of stuff

The best result suggested was removing all water, doing the pump out the water with a no pearl clutching please a toilet brush, followed by removing the last of the water with a coke more pearl clutching or better still Evian water bottle, squeeze bottle water gets sucked up

Then pour white vinegar to where the water mark would have been.

I did this at 5pm and I just investigated and all the horrible marks have gone Grin

Tomorrow I'm going to flush, then remove the water and use the harpic white bleach loo cleaner down it scrubbing with a non scratching scrubbing brush thing

And hope MN housekeeping (threads were from 2008-2017) that I saw, don't let me down!

LittleGreyMeow · 03/04/2017 23:13

From what I can gather it is hard water areas, limescale build up - you often get rid of the visual, but it still remains feels "grainy" to the touch (this I have not tested) and then what you see is bits of urine and poo stuck to it Angry

LittleGreyMeow · 03/04/2017 23:14

Sorry, I'm so impressed I can't help!

Just wanted to add mine went grey initial when I tired to bleach and scrub :)

mineofuselessinformation · 03/04/2017 23:19

Get the black harpic limescale remover and leave on for as long as possible.
Every day, scrub, rinse and repeat (when you know you can leave it for a good few hours - probably overnight) until it's gone. It will go eventually!

LittleGreyMeow · 03/04/2017 23:32

I tried the black lime scale remover the stains just went green Confused and took so much scrubbing, it went back to the stains a few days later Sad

sandgrown · 03/04/2017 23:35

A friend recommended rubbing the stains with a pumice stone. It seems to work

2015mom · 04/04/2017 14:10

I will try thanks I don't think I need to remove water from toilet because the stains are above the water (where the water falls on the sides when the toilet is flushed)

Mine was originally at the waterline it worked its way down.

Whilst my downstairs loo stank of vinegar this morning not a bit of limescale remains it was all squeaky with the brush Smile

NoParticularPattern · 04/04/2017 14:46

I had this on ours where no one had ever bothered to clean it Hmm

I tried everything until I got hold of some domestos (I think it's domestos anyway) limescale removing toilet cleaner- lime flavour! It fizzes in contact with the limescale and sticks like the proverbial! I also started to use some of those Bloo cistern blocks and it has all vanished with no elbow grease required!!

JugglingMum17 · 28/04/2017 21:36

Thanks for your advice

I will have to try some of those techniques...

fruitbats · 28/04/2017 21:39

mom is this the second thread where your name change has failed?

CatsCantFlyFast · 28/04/2017 21:39

Waitrose limescale remover gel is awesome for this

JugglingMum17 · 28/04/2017 22:56

What do u mean fruitbats

JugglingMum17 · 28/04/2017 22:56

I changed my username from 2015 to juggling mum lol

SPARKLYSTARSHINESBRIGHT · 28/04/2017 23:05

Beware of the Bloo cistern blocks they wreck the workings in the cistern. They break down the rubber seals, we found out the hard way after the water kept running as we kept changing the insides - costly!

fruitbats · 28/04/2017 23:38

I saw a thread about shopping that your name also changed mid thread. Not a problem - just a heads up Grin

JugglingMum17 · 28/04/2017 23:44

Oh okay...

JugglingMum17 · 28/04/2017 23:45

What do u mean by failed though because I just changed my username after downloading the app... nothing failed

BusyBee2017 · 21/05/2017 07:40

I got some Duck limescale remover from Poundland about a month ago! DH was organising the garage and I found it again haha

Used it yday and it was amazing! Poured it in toilet, left it for half an hour then flushed it and the streaky marks had disappeared ... I had to then scrub toilet with brush to get rid of the blue limescale remover!

Absolutely brilliant product
