Wee on school shoes

Ds had a wee accident whilst wearing his new school shoes. I rinsed them through immediately & left to air dry but they still stink - any suggestions?

Only thing I can think of, is to sprinkle bicarbonate of soda inside the shoes and if possible, line the bottom of a bag with a good amount of bicarb and seal the shoes in for a day or two, then vacuum out. Another option is put some distilled white vinegar in a spray bottle and give the shoes a good spraying down - both bicarb and white vinegar have amazing deodorising properties.

However, you actually may get away with putting them in the washing machine (with no clothes of course) and an old towel - I have actually washed mens size 10 Timblerland boots in the washer successfully.
