We've just found out we're due to complete three weeks today (estimate but they say it's almost definite)
We've been a bit messed around as there's a new build in our chain, so we haven't even started packing.

Where do I start? My house is full of clutter and stuff I want to sell, I have to keep my downstairs half respectable as I'm a childminder and I'll be childminding throughout the move...

ARGH!

Can you possibly afford to pay the removers to pack for you?

We did once and have never looked back. We've recently put our house on the market and I've already told dh there's no way in hell we're doing it without someone else packing and we're only moving across the road

(whispers) we aren't having removers we're doing it in a van I think...

Am I allowed to say "my god you're brave!"

Hmm, I think my best advice in that case is "get valium"

My next best advice is to not worry about the stuff you have to sell - just get things boxed up and out the door and sort it out when you get there.

Are you moving over several days or do you have to be out on a particular day?

Hi,
I moved a few weeks ago, just over 200 miles.
Didn't use movers either, hired a luton van and did it ourselves.
Had a really bad mix up with the van, it was booked over the phone and due to be collected the day before we moved. When we went to collect we were told we couldn't have it, DP (who was driving) hadn't been driving long enough! They didn't tell us that when we booked it!
Anyway, packing advice. Get more boxes and tape than you think you'll need. Sort, sort, sort and throw anything away you don't love. The stuff you're selling... either sell it quick or put it all in one box and take it with you.
Don't forget your "useful" box, fill with essentials (kettle, cleaning things, toilet rolls etc).
Errm, can't think of anything else, so good luck for your move!
