Washing machine trouble

Saw the dishwasher thread and it gave me hope I might get help here.
My washing machine has started leaving the clothes feeling like they have soap still on after a wash. Sometimes they are feeling too wet still and even if I put the clothes on a wash or two afterwards with no soap they still foam up during the wash.
We've checked the filter, cleaned the drawer and checked the hose- any ideas? It's only 2 years old.

There may be detergent build up in the actual machine (outer drum).

Try plenty of hot (90-95degree) empty washes to remove it. White Vinegar in these washes would also cut through the soap build up. Or you can buy dedicated washing machine cleaners, there is a few, dettol do one.
