Dishwasher not cleaning properly - HELP

ShizerMinelli · 20/03/2017 08:03

We have a dishwasher integrated in our IKEA kitchen (went for the middle of the road choice) - have only had it since June, and already it's getting pretty shoddy at cleaning. Everything seems gritty.

Have tried - salt, rinse aid (do these all time), taking apart and cleaning g thoroughly, various dishwasher cleaners, rinsing plates before they go in.

Before I go back to IKEA, is there anything obvious I'm missing?

Ours leaves gritty crap in the mugs etc in the top shelf. Its new so not happy.

For the last few years I've had to resort to using a scant capful of ordinary washing up liquid (thin, value stuff so doesn't make much lather - vital or bubbles foam out over the floor) instead of any proper dishwasher tablets or powder, because the ridiculous grit problem was really getting me down.

No grit now! Solved! as they say.

I do put the stuff in fairly clean though, ie scraped and sometimes rinsed so I'm probably doing half the work for it!

I thought it would knacker the innards of the machine so it would die and I could replace it but no such luck, it seems to thrive on the stuff.

Gritty stuff is often mashed potato, I wash items by hand that have been used for mash and ensure it is rinsed off plates.

Phosphates have been removed from detergents now, dishwasher products this year and a lot of people are noticing that their dishwashers are no longer working as well. If you read the ingredients you will now see phosphonates but not phosphates which is what got the gunk off.

I have resorted to a hotter wash, nothing else seems to stop it.

I'd noticed that my glasses were frequently coming out looking gritty or milky rather than their previous shiny selves. Also some plates have a little bit of debris left which didn't used to happen. I'll look into it...

Our dishwasher didn't clean properly after a while, cups up top were always covered in hard baked gritHmm tried everything washed spinny arms and filter every day, scraped and rinsed everything first, nothing worked until I found out it was the new plates, they were too big and spinny arms were catching them, bought smaller plates and voila, clean dishes again. Bonus was smaller plates = smaller portions, win win Grin
