Looking for really good dishwasher tablets

I'm genuinely upset (well, not loads, but a bit) as I've been using Aldi's Almat dishwasher tablets for years, the ones that are Which and Good Housekeeping approved.

The absolute swines have reformulated them. I bought a box of the newer ones and they're awful. I'm having to re-wash almost everything because of dried stuck-on food or practically wash everything first, which defeats the purpose.

I have a countertop dishwasher and I put the tablet directly into the machine rather than use the drawer. We've tried Finish, but they were terrible too. Fairy were a bit better.

Any recommendations please? I have pretty much all the supermarkets nearby and have Ocado and Amazon accounts.

I am also struggling to find good ones. They are all removing the last of the phosphates from them so none of them are any good now. Spent ages reading the packaging at the weekend and none of them contain phosphates now, only phosphonates. I am going to try putting some washing soda in each wash and see if it helps, I read that it does and use it to clean the DW.

Lidl ones aren't good any more so don't bother with those.

I use Fairy Platinum. No complaints.

OhMyGodBecky · 13/03/2017 18:28

I've got some Ecover ones that were on offer in Tesco and have no complaints

Lidl W5 all in one all the way for me

BeeFarseer · 13/03/2017 18:59

Doh, the Aldi ones aren't called Almat, they're called Magnum. I think Almat something else.

That's interesting about the phosphates. I couldn't remember the ingredient they removed, but the packaging proclaimed it like it was a good thing. Not if it's the magic ingredient that makes them work, it isn't!

I'm going to try all that have been recommended, and get a bag of soda crystals too, and see if it improves the Aldi ones.

I might email Aldi too, because I am stuck on the sofa under a sleepy toddler and have nothing better to do right now.

I use tesco economy basic ones. With Tesco rinse aid and salt. On the eco cycles. Work a treat for me !

specialsubject · 17/03/2017 11:40

Wilkinson ones.. Tabs, rinse aid and salt under a fiver.

FiredEarth · 17/03/2017 11:51

It could be your dishwasher though. I use Lidl w5 and they don't have phosphates, no problems at all, even with lasagne/casserole dishes.

bingohandjob · 18/03/2017 19:04

I really rate Fairy. I get them from Home Bargains. They're much better than Finish I think.

hugoagogo · 18/03/2017 19:08

We use finish powder and any own brand salt and rinse aid that comes to hand, so much cheaper, great results and no lingering citrusy smells on the Tupperware.

BeaveredBadgered · 18/03/2017 19:09

Waitrose essential ones are as good as any I've had (fairy, finish etc).

Violetcharlotte · 18/03/2017 20:37

I use Lidl ones, they seem pretty good, never had a problem.

TheScarletSquid · 18/03/2017 20:54

Lidl's classic dw tablets, not the all in one type. You need salt and rinse aid but everything comes out clean.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 18/03/2017 20:56

Fairy Platinum. The Co OP lemon ones are not bad.

MrsGotobed · 18/03/2017 20:59

We used to think the Lidl ones were great until we tried Fairy Platinum. .... now they are good!

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 18/03/2017 21:00

Do try cleaning out your dishwasher though.

BumWad · 18/03/2017 21:03

Defo clean your dishwasher regularly including taking the filter apart.

Other than that the basic Fairy ones are great

nemno · 18/03/2017 21:08

Fairy Platinum for me. I used to think the others were much of a muchness and just got used to periodically treating tea-stained mugs by hand . Don't do that anymore.

e1y1 · 19/03/2017 02:11

I'm on my very first pack of the reformulated Finish Quantum Max tablets - as mentioned up thread, they're all being reformulated to take out the phosphates.

I have been using the quantum max continuously for a while (with only the very odd switch to Fairy Platinum when Finish haven't been on offer - refuse to pay full price for any DW stuff), and I was really worried as I would struggle to get something as good as the Finish if the reformulated ones weren't up to scratch.

Touch wood, no complaints so far.

TheGaleanthropist · 19/03/2017 02:36

Co-op own brand

gluteustothemaximus · 19/03/2017 02:51

Tried every single brand. Fairy platinum wins here too.
