Cleaning granite/quartz/silestone worktops

I want to get our old laminate kitchen worktops changed for new ones. I've been looking at granite and quartz worktops which look lovely. How difficult are they to clean though? I don't mind them looking a bit dull where water hasn't been cleaned up, but don't want them stained with tea/pasta sauce etc. There are lots of posts about cleaning granite worktops, but it isn't always clear if the problems have been that they are a bit dull (which I can cope with) or are actually stained.

Granite is extreme difficult to stain, but Quartz does stain quite easily.

I have had granite worktops for the last 2 years and no stains. It does need polishing to brighten it up but method do a lovely granite polish that makes it sparkling 😊

I have a mid grey silestone work surface.
I just clean it with kitchen sparky. I have a specialist spray which I use every now and again.
No marks or stains. It looks good as new and it's a couple of years old now.

Sparky!!!! It should say spray.

Quartz doesn't stain hardly at all! Any turmeric related marks (the only thing that marks our brilliant white work tops) are easily removed with a tiny bit of Barkeepers Friend.

I do struggle with water marks living in a very hard water area, too scared to try viakal so if anyone has any tips about removing that it'd be great

I have bright white Corian. I love it, and tea, curry tomato sauce all come off with a wipe of Barkeepers Friend.

I have black granite and I use the Lakeland specialist granite cleaner.

It's brilliant.

Thanks for all of the replies. I went to a showroom yesterday and loved the white quartz so it is great to hear it doesn't stain. There was also a black and white granite which looked good, and as though it'd hide a lot of toast crumbs. The quartz which was on display was badly chipped at the edges. Is this normal? DH says it's just something I'd have to accept.

We have dark grey quartz and it's fab. Hasn't stained or marked at all and a wipe over with a microfibres cloth and some glass cleaner brings it up spotless.

bouncydog · 11/03/2017 22:14

We have star galaxy polished granite (black with sparkly bits). Use specialist granite spray wiped on with a damp cloth and dried with microfibre. Takes less than 5 mins and we have quite a bit of it!

I'm a cleaner and have a few homes with granite worktops.

Brush off crumbs, stuck on food with warm water and washing up liquid dry with a. Paper towel and then the method stuff buffed with a reusable nappy/soft towel.

I can see my face in it when I'm done!

The e cloths for glass are really good to finish your granite to a good shine after wiping.
