I just spent three hours cleaning the fireplace fender. The pic is from half-way through! What a difference. I reckon the last person to clean it was a Victorian!

We had a brass fender like that when I was growing up. My mum used to curse at having to clean it every week. Yes.. every week!

In our Yorkshire village it was gossiped about if you didn't... 'Eee 'ave you seen the state of 'er brasses...common as muck'.
