Roomba or similar robot vacuum

Does anyone have one and do you rate it. We have large rooms tiled or with wooden floor and I'm sick of constantly lugging around my Henry Hoover to get rid of dog hair. Love the thought of just letting a robot do its thing. Am really wary of spending loads of money though on a gimmick that doesn't really do the job. Was looking at a Roomba 620 for about £230.

We have too much Lego, I fear I'd spend most of my time rummaging through the dust bag looking for Emmet.

I have a neato, it's really good. I keep the floors clear, set it going in a room close the door until it's finished. It only has a small dust collector but it compacts the dust. Generally it does each room every 2-3 days. Mine does have a timer feature but I don't use it. My last house had black flag stone floors and it worked really well. Current house it's used on carpets. I'm lazy when it comes to housework but like a clean house.

I got a very cheap robot vacuum for £40 as I was tired of the dog hair also, but didn't want to commit more money. Only had it 2 months and it's amazing. It cleans up the tumble weeds and also the bits of weaning crumbs. I use it twice a day. Means that I don't need to vacuum so much.
I don't know how long it will last as it was so cheap, but I truly love it. For the more expensive ones I would expect that the suction is better and it probably charges quicker. One of the best purchases I've made and I'll possibly get a more expensive one next time.

I have a vileda one which I got on offer for £35, it's £99 full price. I love it, and TBH if you look at the reviews for the cheaper vs the more expensive ones the expensive ones really don't come out any better and are IMO not worth the price difference.

I have one, but it rarely gets used because it has an irritating habit of getting caught either on the fringe of the dining room rug, or under the TV stand, or in any corner it can find.

If I can bear to take the time to clear the kitchen and utility rooms of all bins, furniture etc, and sweep the corners, it will do a reasonable job of hoovering the floor, but it can't be left unsupervised in the front room or dining room.

We've recently got one of these: botvac It's brilliant! Can't compare it to any others as it's the first we've had, but as it's square at the front, I would imagine it would go into corners much better than a Roomba. As it's so easy, three times a week, I lift a few things out of the way and set it going when I leave for work. Previously I would never have vacuumed three times a week, so the house is generally much cleaner. I just need to teach it to do the stairs and the ironing and then it'll be perfect

The vileda one will be at lidl from tomorrow for £69.99 (£99.99 on Amazon with a solid 4 stars). We'll be getting one because we HATE hoovering and we have cats.

Roomba do corners fine as they have a little springy brush that comes out.

I have hard floors, but quite thick rugs - can they go from floor to rug quite easily?

Can they be left unsupervised at the top of the stairs?

We have a Neato - it's great. Top of stairs not a problem - they have sensors and map out the room. Annoying that they can't also tidy up, but they do a great job of hoovering.

Ive got that vileda one, I paid £80 on Amazon.

We had a little play with it but I'm not allowed to use it till the kitchen floors down.

Cat was not impressed with it one bit.

Top of stairs is fine, normal short tuft rugs fine but the shaggy pile one used to defeat it. It was getting past it anyway so replaced it with a short pile rug so we didn't have to roll it up. Our house has become more minimalist (in a slightly disordered non-interior designed way ) since we got the roomba.

I had a Neato - I liked it, but over time it made black lines along all of our skirting boards from bashing into them, so I sent it back in the end. I do miss it though!

I don't live near a Lidl so couldn't get the Vileda one.
Can anyone recommend another cheap one please?

I just posted in another thread about this and came across so I thought it would share it here. I have a 690, it does the job with my 2 cavapoos and general family living, but I wouldn't recommend it as a deep cleaner, won't get the job done. I have a roomba now but I had a much cheaper dust devil one that I actually think was slightly better on wooden floors.

A roomba is a good choice but Neato seems to be slightly better in terms of quality. There's a price difference between the two.
