Cleaning leather sofa - steam?

I've googled but there seems to be conflicting advice about this. Cream leather sofas that I can't get clean (the cats love laying on the backs of them blush ) and I'm starting to get increasingly depressed when I look at them! I've tried the fairy liquid/warm water/soft cloth method but they just aren't coming up particularly well. I've got a vax steam cleaner - does anyone know if this would be suitable or am I likely to bugger them up? Does anyone else have any fabulous tips for cleaning? Any advice would be enormously appreciated. Thank you!

I used to clean my cream leather sofas with dove soap ( the bar). Rub the soap onto a damp cloth and then over the leather rinse off with warm water and dry it well. I would not recommend using a steamer on leather. Then put a throw on for the cats to lay on.

I've used this stuff for lots of cleaning jobs including my leather sofa which is sort of off-white rather than cream. It's called vistal hard surface cleaner and it did an amzing job of bringing back the original colour, the sponge gets into all the edges where the beading is and the pattern of the leather. It's seems quote expensive but it last for ages and I use it for loads of things

I use saddle soap on my cream leather sofa. Works a treat and smells lovely. You can buy it from Amazon if you are not near a horsy place.
