How much laundry?

My and DH have this argument all the time. He claims we all have too many clothes and that's why the washing machine is always on and I spend hours folding and putting away. I claim me and the kids have just enough clothes, any less and we'd be short iyswim? He has a few items of clothes as he works from home so is just in the same old clothes all the time.

There's 2 adults, a teenager and 2 girls aged 6 and 10 in the house. I guess my question is 'what's the normal amount of clothes each person in your house has?' And 'how many loads of washing do you have per week?'

OP if lots of the washing is generated by your kids changing clothes un-necessarily or dumping clean stuff in the basket, then your DH might have a point. Fewer clothes might focus their minds a little.
Otherwise- I agree with PPs, they can do their own blinking washing- certainly the folding and putting away part!! And by 14 the Paddington bear scene is in danger of becoming a lifelong tactic and needs tackling.

I can't talk though, i've at least a wash a day here- two adults, a 3yo and a baby in washable nappies...

I deducted a pound for every clean item in the laundry from pocket money

We do about a load a day I think. A lot less since I check what the DC put in the wash basket as they too have a habit of putting everything in after one wear - they're only 8 and 5 so they don't smell and generally are quite clean!

I've also culled mine and their wardrobe almost to capsule level which doesn't necessarily help with the washing but it does help with getting dressed in the morning!

I agree the 3rd one is the killer! There is 5of us, and between clothes, towels, bedlinen it's on everyday. It's the only way to try and attempt to keep on top of it
