I'd like to buy one for the rug and around the fireplace and want one that is powerful but not large, anyone have any recommendations ?

I really doubt anyone still has a "dustbuster", it's all cordless dysons/gtechs nowadays.

I have just googled, and they do still do them, but I thanks to the above, I can't imagine they're all that popular now.

Oh right :), everyone seems to rave about the cordless Dyson - I am not a huge fan of Dysons in general, though.

I have a Vax Air cordless lift and it is good, but for me personally, it can't replace a corded vac.

Also saw a demonstration on YouTube this morning of the G-Tech Air Ram vac and that seems very good too.

For what you're saying you want to use it for though, I actually think the Dyson would be the most ergonomic as it's completely hand held, as opposed to using an extension tube from the unit like you would with the vax.
