Great bargain in the charity shop this morning - a lovely Cos navy top for £6. Thought i'd check the washing instructions and it says dry clean only. (well it doesnt say that, it's got the symbol for washing with a cross through it).

Top is in two parts, top is a viscose/spandex mix, the bottom floaty part is cupro, which some googling tells me is a type of cotton. looks a bit like silk.

Is there really any reason this top won't stand up to a gentle hand wash? It would cost more to have it dry cleaned than the top cost me in the first place!

I got really good advice on here about handwashing dry clean only. Basically do it really gently, gentle detergent and swill around in bath.

I ended up putting 2 Hobbs summer dresses on the handwash cycle in the washing machine and they were fine. No weird linings or anything to get worked up about though.
