MOVING HOUSE

If you were moving into a new house, would you expect the sellers to clean the house before they left it? Or would you just expect to give it a thorough clean when you moved in?

Both!

We are moving next week and we will clean and hoover before we leave We're nice like that

LIZS · 24/02/2007 13:40

We're also moving this week - assuming we have time, we'll wipe over and vacuum before we leave.

LIZS · 24/02/2007 13:42

oh and the one we're movng to is cleanish but has been unoccupied for some time and vendors live abroad so even getting shot of their old furniture is down to the agent and us - so it will get messed up and be in need of some cleaning.

I would dust, hoover and clean kitchen and bathroom before i left, and leave fresh loo roll etc. It's so depressing to move into a filthy house. The last house we bought was spotless, apparently the seller was polishing the brass doorknob the night they moved out

LIZS · 24/02/2007 13:47

I'm not busting a gut to do much though as ours is an investment buyer who will renew carpets , kitchen etc anyway.

potawitty · 24/02/2007 14:14

Hmmm interesting. We will be really pushed for time and now i'll feel guilty if we don't clean it before we go. It's bacisally very clean anyway but...

basically!

I was horrified by the dust that appeared after the removal men had left and the strange smell too. If it's clean anyway, you shouldn't have much to do. I just think it's a generous gesture. Don't necessarily expect the same generosity in your new place though, i suspect it's the last thing on many people's minds.

I am planning to clean our living room carpet, give our oven a good clean and paint our porch before we move

I suppose we should add cleaning out all of the cupboards

Have you all sorted out useful info for the new people? (manuals, names of companies you use etc)

LIZS · 25/03/2007 12:45

We left the relevant manuals, sorted the keys into bags, left a note with the bin day and our forwarding address but apart from that , since the new people were local and not living there themselves anyway, left them to it ! I did hoover, dust and de-cobweb where the furniture had been and even managed to wash the gunky kitchen floor once the washing machine was out (btw Fairy liquid is great on floors too - the Flash had already been packed !)
