on this

does it look quite useful (disregarding the pricetag) as a piece of kit for drying the delicates and shirts etc... or, is it a total waste of time?

also, if i dry shirts in it, will they then not need ironing? or am i thinking of another thing (some sort of steamer freshener cabinet...) and if i am, what is the other thing and where can i find it??

someone must be bored/capable enough to find out these things for me (i am shite at internet searching and get drawn off on tangents and never get anything done...)

well it might just be me, but I have my airer next to a radiator and they dry fine

not pretty, no, but hell, neither is that

I use enough energy keeping my house warm, can't see heating up something else

If I want anything to dry quickly, I hang it over the rail of the Rayburn.

hmmm, agree... so its basically just an airing cupboard right? it doesnt negate ironing does it...
i am so trying to force myself to give a toss, tbh... am re-doing laundry room as a tiny part of redoing whole house. have been moved out since july now, and really wish i wasnt complaining coz i get a fabulous house at the end of it, but i am so over having bloody builders around and just want my house back! if i could turn back time and have it back as it was tomorrrow rather than waiting another few months and having to make thousands more decisions on details i couldnt give a monkeys about (but know i will care about later maybe) i would!!

and, oh the shame, i already do get someone else to do the ironing. and the washing for that matter.
maybe if i had lots of amazing eqipment id do it myself and not need to pay out for it? (yeah right, in a pigs ear. am a slovenly slatternous pig)

if you're redoing the 'laundry room' why can't you just get a slightly higher spec radiator in their and stick an airer in front of it?

or get one of those tall towel radiators meant for bathrooms? Could hang lots of stuff on / around it.

have you considered a new steam washing machine, expensive but you need to iron less, does any mner know if this is really true?

good point capp and mrsB... a big radiator and maybe get them to build a cupboard rtound it out of ply, et voila, an airing cupboard (derrrr, dunno why i didnt think of that)

will go and ask if thats poss... it prob wont be. absolutely nothing has been a simple answer so far, why should it start now?

robbosmum - are you talking about a steam cabinet thing you hang clothes in and it cleans and irons them, just by streaming them? coz if there is such a thing, i want to know how to find one and check out prices!

no, its an ordinary washing machine but it cleans clothes via steam..

If you want to keep linen, towels etc folded up in an airing-cupboard stylee maybe get a radiator and a towel rack thing with slatted shelves ?

if you want to hang things to dry get a radiator and a rack that hangs from the celining / extends from the wall

airign cupboards are overrated so long as you have somehwere else to keep towles and linen

aha!

now, the laundry room is an old potting shed, converted (i live on an old farm) and thus does not have hot water plumbing...yet... but it does have 2 washing machines, 2 driers, and a kitchen sink, so along with a new radiator that justifies a new bit of piping to service the whole room - and if i can find a rad that is a normal one, with option to blow hot air, i can stick it up at one end of the room and have ample hanging/slatted shelf space around it... all concieved thanks to you lot

agree capp, no cabinet needed. (duh)

and as to where to put linen/towels etc, MrsB youre gonna hate me, but i have also converted an old lean to extension (used to be the utility room 30 years ago, but had no purpose with the new layout), which you have to walk past on the way to the newly attched-to-the-house laundry room, into a linen room (absurdly excited emoticon) it is about 2m x 3m and lined with slatted shelves for all the spare bedding, towels, sheets etc etc.

see? when all this is done, will i want anyone lese to do my washing/ironing? it'll almost be a pleasure to do it myself

Has anyone every noticed that the majority of the progs are aimed at women and multi-tasking/keeping the house tidy, even though a lot of them work part time as well as look after the kids.......its as if any mess is their fault and the hubby is excused it all because he's at work all day!!!

we wont be having any of that 'women do all the crap boring dirty work' attitudes round here, i tell you.

no, we'll none of us clear up and all live in squalor, rather than me shoulder it all, thats for damn sure.
