How to get grout white again without bleach?

I remember vaguely reading that someone putting something on the grout in the shower to make it white again but can't remember what it is? I can't pour bleach all over it as I don't use bleach aa it affects DC asthma. Any other tips?

HD spray. Works wonders and lasts too

Anothernamechanger1 · 10/01/2017 14:45

What's that two? I haven't heard of it?

we leave a firm bristle toothbrush in the shower area and a small bar of anti bacterial soap. Once or twice a week me or DH work a little soap onto the brush and go over the grout whilst in the shower then rinse it off before we get out. There was this little area that was overlooked and between the tiles was pretty dark but the toothbrush got it back to white again so for now this works wonders.

Really need? Just soap?! I can shift it with the bath cleaner and a sponge with the scourer bit on the back!

HD spray is exactly that. Look on amazon etc for it it's around £5 a bottle. Works wonders with no scrubbing. Just spray on in a well ventilated room leave for 14 mins and wash it off. Brilliant white grout. I can post a pic if you like ?

Twoevils · 10/01/2017 16:06

Do you mean HG mould spray jobbys ? because the main component of that is bleach.

Apologies if you meant something else.

Hot soapy water and an old toothbrush.

Twolittlejobbys · 10/01/2017 16:30

Oops so it is. Sorry! Tis good though 😂

Lovepancakes · 10/01/2017 16:34

I bought a sort of grout paste (might have been on Amazon but can't remember) that you spread on with its sponge nozzle and it l changed grey grouting to white and made it look new?

Anothernamechanger1 · 10/01/2017 16:53

I'm sure I read someone making their own paste if something on here, or did I imagine it?

Honestly. Just soap and a ffirm bristle toothbrush. Just try that first before anything else. You never know...

Anothernamechanger1 · 10/01/2017 16:59

Adding firm toothbrush to shopping list Grin

Bicarbonate of soda and a very small amount of bleach; mix to make a thick paste and leave on the offending grout for 5-10 minutes.

I have tried this and it works!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/01/2017 17:04

HG spray is VERY strong bleach.

LaundryQueenHatesIroning · 10/01/2017 17:05

I used this last year and it was great, it's still white now, only needed to add it to places I hadn't done the first time

How to get grout white again without bleach?
SorrelSoup · 10/01/2017 17:06

LaContessaDiPlump I read that on here. I've got as far as buying the ingredients. I'll try it tomorrow and report back! The HD spray has some chappy amazon reviews that put me off.

LaContessaDiPlump · 10/01/2017 17:36

Grin I read it on here too!

Wisewisewords · 10/01/2017 17:49

I've just bought a grout brush (Sainsburys) which does the job quicker than my previous tool of the old toothbrush. Kept dipping it in a dish of distilled vinegar and it got rid of the slime/mould quite well and the tiles shined after I wiped it down. Can't say if it makes it white again as my grout wasn't white to start with but definitely cleaned it up.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/01/2017 17:49

Was it bicarb and lemon juice?

Anothernamechanger1 · 10/01/2017 18:14

I'll have to try the bicarbonate minus the bleach....
