Bathroom mould

Hi,

I have a small amount of black mould on my bathroom ceiling. I want to repaint as its unsightly, but do I need to treat it first? I'd like to avoid using chemicals as I have young children in the house and not good ventilation, which is probably why we have mould in the first place! Or can I just buy anti mould paint and paint right over it?

No you'll need to clean it first. B&M etc all sell mould and mildew spray for about £1. It's great.

Spray the whole room (I do all the surfaces at the same time), open the window, close the door and take the kids out for an hour. Then scrub down. It'll be sparkling.

Maybe do it when you don't have the kids at home? Or when they are asleep.

Clean first. I swear by Dettol Mould & Mildew. No wiping needed.

If it's wood like mine you should sand it first then apply 2/3 coats of a good oil based paint, if not clean it then cover with said paint. Should keep it away and keep the window open even just a crack to prevent it coming back

bleach or mould remover first.

you can't avoid chemicals. Just don't let the kids drink or breathe the poisonous ones. They don't need to be out of the house.

I would treat the ceiling with this mould spray and then paint over it!

Bleach will get rid of it

Be careful to use only bleach OR other products- not 1 then other on same day as mixing will cause a problem with fumes

I've had this (in a rental) - lots of black Louis came off. As ceiling: I wore shower cap and eye protection (sunglasses will do) and stood on a chair to clean ceiling

Louis = mould. You may not need to repaint
