Recommend a slow cooker?

I'm getting a slow cooker. There are so many brands/types out there - are they all much of a muchness or are some better than others? What do you have and do you like it?

What size are you looking for?

I have a 3.5 litre Crockpot, but it depends how many people you want to serve.

I had a smaller one (1.5L) which was just too small to be practical. Food would stick to the bottom and sides, and it was difficult to mix without overflowing.

The crockpot dish can supposedly go in the oven, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Some have dishes that you can use on the hob so might be useful if you're likely to cook things that require browning first. (I'm vegetarian but there always seems to be debate about whether meat needs to be browned first!)

If money were no object I'd have a Netherton Foundry cast iron slow cooker :)

We have the sage multi cooker which is a slow cooker with sauté function, a rice cooker, steamer and makes risottos. We love it

Thanks, I would need one that I can cook four/six portions in maximum. I'm so used to doing stews traditionally/in the oven that I would definitely need to brown first I think.

I think the 3.5 litre would probably be too small then. You can obviously brown stuff in a pan and then add it in. But if you wanted to save the washing up the ones you can use on the hob are called something like "sear and stew".
