The Easiest Cleaning and Reproofing a Barbour Method, Please

I bought one in a charity shop (a men's Bedale for £3, bargainlicious!!) but it needs a bit of cleaning and reproofing, but I need someone's advice on how best to go about it. I've seen Barbour's own method and their wax product, but there are other makes too. It all seems a bit of a faff to damp sponge-clean and then the reproofing comes with melted wax, but is that the only route to doing this properly. Seems awfully tedious and time-consuming!!

I took the bull by the horns and washed mine in the washing machine. Used a cool wash and non bio powder, air dried and re - waxed with Barbour wax.
Absolutely fine!

They used to offer a cleaning, rewax and repair service. Otherwise it is soft wax and a hairdryer!

I drop mine into a Barbour shop ohh, every ten or fifteen years for a reproof. They always seem glad to see an old one, asking how long i have had it and why i got it.... enjoy.

I'm too much of a scaredy cat to put it in the washing machine.
The Barbour cleaning service is a bit costly so that's out of the question. I now wish I done something about it in the summer when we had all that lovely hot weather for it to dry properly. Oh well, I'll have to bite the bullet, and do it the proper way then...

Could you wash it in the washing machine and then use an in-wash reproofed like NikWax? It feels slightly waxy...

Erm... Another contender for the washing machine, eh?? I don't think so; Nikwax is waterproofing for goretex type materials, so I don't think it'd work on a waxed material. Not unless, someone who's done this and its worked for them?
