You know the saying that you never have just one mouse?

Is that always the case? Only I think I might have had just one mouse (now deceased). We've been having builders in and out as one of the bathrooms is being refitted. On Monday my cleaner saw a mouse in the hot press (that's 'airing cupboard' in English English). I put traps down and a mouse got caught in one almost immediately. Since then not a thing. I've cleaned out the hot press so that I can wash everything and there was very little in the way of droppings and no sign of a nest. Can I be reasonably confident that I'm not still infested?

Nope, not until the trap's been down for a couple of weeks.
We've caught 8 mice in 12 days and still think there are more to come. Last year we caught one, cleaned everything up and 6 weeks later started catching them every night for a fortnight 😡

Have twice had a single mouse and no more, so I think it's possible, if unusual, but then we have cats, so I think the smell of them probably discourages most mice!

We had one once. And it was definitely only one. Caught it (which was NOT easy) and let it go, miles from home and never had any more bother.

I'll leave the traps down then, and store all the re-washed bed linen somewhere else. There's more work to do, the hot water tank is going to need to be replaced as it's too small to fill my new deep soaking bath, so perhaps that will bring the mice to light if there are any more of them.

We just had one, thought I was going nuts through lack of sleep with a newborn when I kept hearing scuffling noises but then I actually saw it. My partner did a brief stint with environmental health and found its more common than you think. One gets in, gets comfy and can't find its way back out.
