Dyson V6 or V8 (that is the question!)

I have decided that for Christmas I would like one of the cordless Dysons (sad I know).
I had planned just to go all out and get the V8 as it has a longer run time and apparently has better suction. But with Black Friday the V6 is looking very attractive... at around £200 vs the V8s eye watering £450.

Has anyone used both? Is the V8 really worth an extra £200?

I have a good size 4 bed house but never do the whole house at once so not massively worried about run time (but more would be better) I'm more concerned about suction power. But I'm also concerned that the chargeable battery will wear out eventually so maybe it's not worth spending as much?

Please help with my sad housekeeping conundrum!

Will a V6 suffice?

We have both and I would say the V8 is a lot better.

But the most important thing if you get a V6 is to get the absolute or the fluffy model as they come with the "fluffy head" which can suck up slightly larger bits (like Cheerios and raisins rather than just pushing them around).

I've just looked and V6 total clean has the fluffy head included too I think.

If you get the fluffy or the animal it's at least 80 quid extra - for a head?

If I don't eat raisins or cheerios can I buy it ????

We've got the v8 and a 6 bedroom house - it's defo the best vacuum cleaner i've ever had, i trialled the gtech and was not impressed. If you can't afford the v8 then go for the v6 but in my opinion i think the v8 is worth the extra.

You can get the total clean for £229 on the dyson website. I'd say that it's worth the extra £50 if you have wooden floors. Probably not if you have all/mainly carpet. We originally had the regular V6 and I still used to have to sweep the kitchen floor as it couldn't handle the larger bits.

I've got a Dyson V8. As you can't decide which one to buy, hopefully my review of the V8 will help lol. I've needed a new hoover for quite a while, but couldn't justify spending so much on a cordless version. It took me a full year to finally decide I'd go for it after reading many reviews for the umpteenth time. I bought the Absolute a couple of weeks ago. Wow. That says it all. The power it has on standard use is amazing. I have 2 dogs (one of the reasons I wanted a cordless hoover, so easy to just quickly pick stray hairs and biscuit crumbs up!) and no sooner have I tidied then there is more mess. Not now! It takes literally 2 minutes to whip round the whole downstairs. I tried the max setting just out of interest, it almost devoured the carpet! I know it's expensive, but it's the best purchase I've made in a very long time. Recommended unreservedly 10/10.

I recently got the V8 Animal and it has changed my life! With 2 kids and a shedding dog it's now so quick and easy just to whizz round quickly. I've hardly used the max setting, standard seems just fine on hard floors and carpet. And doing the stairs is almost joyous! I wouldnt be without it!

I've got the V6 and it's brilliant as a 2nd hoover. I've got a normal Dyson for the weekly big clean. If I could've afforded or justified the V8 I'd have gone for it.
Would the V8 be ok as the only hoover in the house?

it sounds like the V8 may be the way forward for me.

I want to use it as my main hoover as I currently have a Vax air (which is crap) and I have a dog and a toddler and feel like I'm constantly hoovering and can never be bothered to wind the cord up let alone take the vacuum up the stairs!

Since you guys are experts, which model do I need? I have wood floors with rugs downstairs and carpet upstairs. Lots of food gets dropped of varying size and it needs to pick up long hair.

If you were talking about the V6 I would say to make sure it has the "soft roller cleaner head" to pick up larger bits on the wooden floor. But annoyingly I think for the V8 the only option with that is the absolute (which is $50 more expensive). But I've never tried the V8 regular head on wood floors so maybe it does better than the V6 one.

It sounds like I will need the fluffy head attachment. I suppose once you've spent that much money you may as well go all out.

Are there any deals on V6 or V8 today? someone on the black Friday thread mentioned AO, I had a peep at ordering from the Dyson direct website but I am not sure where the bargains are?

I have seen the V6 on sale direct on the dyson site, at Argos and also price matched at John Lewis.

My V6 has died at days over two years old 😫. I really can’t afford a V8 and in fact would like to get away from dysentery. Mixture of floors, word, rugs and carpet with a dog who has longish fine hair. Oh, I have have loads of thick curly hairs which sheds 😱.

Does anyone use any other cordless vacs they recommend? Needs to be super light and work for aprund 20 minutes.
