How do I get tomato stains out of white t-shirts?

Three times I washed these t-shirts now, and I can still see the faint red marks where tomato splashed when cooking. I've used biological powder, Dr Beckman's stain remover, Vanish - any ideas?

If they are plain white and cotton, you could boil wash or bleach?

ChickyDuck · 31/10/2016 18:05

Sunlight! I know it isn't really the weather for it, and it sounds a bit random, but hang it outside in direct sunlight for a couple of days. It really is miraculous!

Yep, sunlight. On a hanger in the window, even if it's not sunny the UV will work.

Sunshine is amazing for getting tomato stains out.

I am currently doing this with a tomato based stain on a pale cotton t shirt (hanging up in the conservatory). It has faded significantly in one day so I'll leave it another and see if it goes completely.

Keep wetting the stain as it hangs in the UV.

Yes, sunlight.

icelollycraving · 01/11/2016 18:34

Absolutely, sunlight is bloody brilliant on stains.

Mild bleach, then sunlight!

LapinR0se · 01/11/2016 19:12

You need a detergent with enzymes. I'd say Persil small & mighty bio would do the job.
Now you've washed it multiple times only sunlight will get the orange halo out

Just thought I'd (belatedly) come back to this thread to thank you all. Sunlight does indeed work a treat, and I've used this method loads since I started this thread. I've got a t-shirt hanging in the window right now, it's on day 4 and that massive stain is almost gone.

So again - thank you all!

It also works really well on red wine and gravy stains (once you've got the grease out).
