Tumble drier in the garage?

It's that time of year when I yearn for a tumble drier - nothing dries fully in the north facing garden, heating isn't on yet so clothes take ages to dry inside.
Normally money puts me off but this year I have a job and there is money for one. I'm also slightly more time poor

So... if I was to get a tumble drier it would have to go in the garage which is only accessed from outside.
Should I go for vented? Condensing? One of those fancy new heat pump ones- although I'm not sure I have enough £ for that.

Talk to me about tumble driers please!

I have a condenser and it's really good - have had no problems with it. But it's going to be a right pain in the arse having it in the garage - is there nowhere indoors? Carrying dry washing back into the house when it's raining, lugging wet washing out when it's cold etc - it won't be fun (though I suppose it will be more fun than no tumble dryer).

I had a condenser in my garage for several years. It got a lot of use (two kids in washable nappies). It wasn't ideal but it was better than no tumble drier at all. I used to set the oven timer to remind me when a load would be finishing.

I have vented in garage, as above bit of a pain when it's raining but preferable to laundry everywhere! If you vent it out the window be careful because you're not meant to have any big kinks in vent - lint can build up in there and set on fire.

We vent ours out the door, so the vent is straight.

Mine is in the garage but we access our garage through a door in the kitchen.
It vents out through the cat flap!
Never been a problem for me.

We had one in the garage. It was a condenser, and I used to tip the water out into the flower pots by the garage door. It was a million times better than drying clothes on an airer, even when it meant getting rained on.

Check if the one you want can be kept outside, some of the condensers require certain temperatures to operate.

In a previous house it was that small I had both washer and drier outside in a small out house. I put tarpaulin on the floor just incase it ever got wet as a precaution but never had any problems. It was an old vented drier and I just put the pipe through a window opening and never haseen a problem in the 3 years we was there.

We have a vented one in the garage but DH bought a contraption that the vent goes I to (small plastic box) that collects condensation then you can empty the water. It was very cheap and works brilliantly.

Exact same as mintthins, the flower pots by the garage were always well watered

My washing machine was out there too, so I was always in and out. It's not ideal, and I'd occasionally forget I had a load in the dryer until I wondered where something was, but it's great as an option (admittedly I much prefer our new house where we have a utility room with washer and dryer)

We have a condenser in the garage, yes it's a pain in the backside traipsing out to it in the wet and cold but I'd take that any day over not having one at all.

We've just bought this bosch tumble dryer , our appliances are in an outside utility room, hard to describe but basically like a garage. It's fabulous so far!

In fact I can't imagine having washer and tumbler in the house again, it's nice not having the noise going on all day.

We moved the entire utility room into the garage (washer, tumble, sink, cupboards, spare fridge freezer etc).

The tumble is vented and the pipe runs through the wall to outside.

Our vented one is in the garage - we have a shutter on it so I leave that partway open and stick the hose out.

I have a vented one in the garage. I bought a fancy pants condenser one before and everytime it broke the repair guy would say they don't work properly in the cold. Vented much better ime

The vent just screws on to the box, water collects and we empty it. Really easy 😊

If you do, make sure you get a really loud smoke alarm for your garage, one you can hear from the house and never switch it on at bedtime - I'd be terrified of it blazing away and setting the whole garage and house on fire if something went wrong, without you knowing.

I had a condenser one indoors and love it, very easy to empty when it's right beside the sink. But it would be a bit of a pain though to have to make an extra trip in and out of the garage each time to take tray back outdoors and empty it, and only then unpack the clothes. It being in the garage already is hassle enough so you need to make everything else and user-friendly as easy as possible - otherwise I predict you will rarely be bothered using it.

Mine is in the garage - vented - I just leave the door open when it's in use and I never put it on over night. I keep wellies by the back door in winter so on a rainy sunday and I'm in my slippers I can put them on, run down the garden and get the washing. I couldn't be without it.
