How to remove the stench of wee from leather shoes?

My poor 5 year old was not allowed to go to the loo at school when he asked and so had an "accident". His leather school shoes got a good soaking in the process and stink of pee. Any ideas how I can remove this? The lining is saturated but I do not want to wash leather shoes.

Poor little boy :-( I assume you've had strong words with his teacher? I'd sprinkle the inside of the shoes with a very liberal amount of bicarb of soda and washing powder (or put that mix into some socks and stuff the shoes with those)

I put DD's Startrites through a 15 min cold washing machine cycle with a teaspoon of washing powder. Polished to death after, just about got away with it.

TwigTheWonderKid, his teacher apologised profusely and, to be fair, she had asked them all to go 5 min earlier but I think she will believe him from now on! Good tips, will go searching in the scary under the sink cupboard to see if we have bicarb!

Clarks are usually fine in the washing machine. They are designed to be washed (or at least that is what the fitter fitting the DC's shoes over the holidays told me).

An enzyme cleaner such as Simple Solution for pets. I have used it for years on any type of organic accident, on shoes, carpets, furnishings, clothing...

Put the shoes in the wash and then try this odor spray on the shoes, this should get rid of the stench of pee.
