How can I soften a scratchy wool cardigan??

I bought a really nice military style jacket/cardigan in wool last winter from M & S - I've tried wearing it but couldn't bear the feeling of the wool on my neck and arms. I've soaked it overnight in Comfort, washed twice and it still scratches. I can't bear the thought of sticking it in the charity bag but that's where its heading........

Try handwashing with 2 or 3 tablespoons of glycerin added to the water.
