Venetian blinds

I just noticed today that our Venetian blinds are filthy Has anyone any tips on how is best to clean them?

When I got Venetian blinds I swore I would clean them regularly but of course I didn't.

Here's what I do. I use the upholstery brush attachment on the Hoover and do it more or less slat by slat. Then I use either a microfibre cloth or baby wipes. The baby wipes are good and I wrap it around the slat so that I clean both sides at once.

I so regret getting Venetian blinds for that very reason. I love the look, but they are a bastard to clean, and I have lots of them.

I don't do them very often, but when I do I close them fully & hoover them with a brush attachment. Then I damp dust each individual slat.

I have this thing I got from Lakeland for cleaning them, but it's a bit of a faff so I prefer a duster.

If anyone else has better ideas, I'm all ears!

Unfortunately I fear the dirt is so ground in it'll require some elbow grease to clean them. I have a steam cleaner, so trying to work out if that would be any use. I do like the baby wipe tip deux. There aren't many cleaning jobs you can't do with a baby wipe

The steam cleaner might work, but would it be very messy with lots of spray everywhere? Sadly my blinds are made of wood so I wouldn't want to steam clean them.

I am also liking the baby wipes tip.

Apparently a tumble dryer sheet is really good, the dust is attracted to it (to do with static). I haven't tried it myself but it's meant to work brilliantly.

You're probably right alpaca. I'm sure there must be some kind of pad attachment with the steam cleaner that could work. I must dig out the bag of stuff that came with it and look. I had big ideas for everything I could clean with the steam cleaner when I bought it but I've only ever used it to clean the kitchen & bathroom floors so far!

Ooh s tumble dryer sheet sounds good. Though like I say, I'll have to get rid of the years of ground in dirt first

The tumble drier sheets do work if it's just dusting.

You need something damp/wet to get rid of the grime. Mine are white (why?)

I haven't tried this myself but I did read that old socks work. You put the sock, dry or damp, over your hand and rub over the slat.

I'm almost inspired by this thread to go and clean mine.

I did a trial run with a baby wipe tonight and the filth that came off was incredible I'll
have to tackle them properly at the weekend. I'm so ashamed. I'm normally much cleaner than this, honest...

Oooooh I'm inspired by the baby wipe tip. I'm (tragically) excited about trying this when I get up...

What you need is a husband who is quite obsessed with cleaning them. I don't go near mine. He huffs and puffs every few weeks & cleans them with baby wipes.
