Mucky Iron

Does anyone have advise on how to clean an iron?
I've managed to get something sticky on the plate and now it's got all dirt on it that rubs off on clothes when I'm using it.
I don't want to ruin it as it's a new iron, what is the best thing to use to clean it and to keep it clean?

I read somewhere on here that rubbing paracetamol helps to get stuff off. I've never tried it but a cheap fix if it works. Good luck!

Thanks Johno I'll give it a try

Did it work? I have the same problem

Have you tried white vinegar, lemon and water mixed up? Worked a treat on my iron.

You could also try this soleplate cleaner

Switch the iron on (no steam) and rub a paracetamol tablet over the mucky bit. The dirt literally dissolves and you can wipe it with a damp cloth.

I always use a brillo pad

The soleplate cleaner that user recommends is brilliant - cleans without scratching. It is weird, weird stuff though - strange texture!

I use toothpaste - minty fresh laundry as a bonus Grin
