I'm going to properly deep clean my house, slowly.

My house isn't exactly a midden, but it's not good. The middles get cleaned a la flylady, but I have no real routines and you can tell! It's all just a bit grubby unless its dark and there are only lamps or candles to add a gentle glow and hide the mess and muck. I'm a single mum, three kids and I work so I give myself a bit of slack and try not to get too bothered by it as long as I keep the kitchen clean, food in the cupboards and we all have clean clothes. But I've been thinking about Christmas and how I'd love the house to be all cosy and lovely and with that in mind I'm going to do an epic declutter, clean everything and make it gorgeous. The caveat is that it will probably take till Christmas to do it all!

Today so far I have:

put the sofa covers in the wash
defrosted the freezer
done a food shop (not part of Operation Christmas but necessary!)

Once I've finished my cuppa, I'm going to pull out the sofas and clean under there (anyone else find that EVERYTHING ends up there?) and declutter a bookcase. Maybe if I have time I'll address the living room toy box too.

I thought I might focus on one room a week. Anyone care to join me?

Turning around and having a go with afore mentioned radiator brush :l there were piles of dust in the hallway and I had to open the bedroom windows I was coughing so much before hoovering Confused

Or just relax! Maybe make a little list and Google the best easy to clean things, that skyways entertains me!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 24/10/2016 18:28

Toys all sorted, two black bags gone to the tip of broken bits and crap plastic tat.
Toys are all in organised boxes with lids, some downstairs, some upstairs. It's lovely.

I need to tackle the understairs cupboard and the study, but oh lord they're both so bad. Paperwork is a nightmare!

Ok. Deep breath. Haven't done anything deep cleany for quite a while now... half term/ill children/work. Standard reasons eh?

I'm going to make a list of 5 things I'd like to get done this week. Back on it.

Well I've sorted out my summer shoes and taken a large bag to the charity shop.

I had about 100 baby spiders appear in our bedroom Shock Mr Chottie and I spent an evening moving all furniture and dusting and vacuuming everywhere and wiping everything. We finally found the baby spider sac under the bed (!) it and mother spider were rehomed. I could not believe how much dust there was under the bed, on the lamp shades etc.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 29/10/2016 20:31

boobs similar story here! Never mind, it's a new week.

Chottie I am dreading doing the same, getting a new mattress soon so I figure while the old one is out the way I will clean under all the furniture. It's going to be so gross.

slightlysoreboobs · 29/10/2016 22:08

Chottie, commiserations on the spiders. And the dust. Must feel great now it's done?

It's just under 2 months until Christmas - that's loads of time isn't it?!

I haven't made a plan. I have had wine and crisps. But I will make a plan, honest.

Thanks Moo and soreboobs

Yes, it did feel good to sort out the bedroom. I now need to go into the wardrobe. The shoes are sorted and gone, but I couldn't believe how much dust there was in the bottom of the wardrobe - where does it come from?

This will be my Wednesday afternoon job (1/2 day working on Wednesday).

slightlysoreboobs · 02/11/2016 09:31

chottie I had a look under my bed. The dust is unbelievable and I don't even want to think about the bottom of my wardrobe!! I Hoover under the bed occasionally...

Today I'm going to deal with all the decluttered things - I've tried to do 15 mins (a la fly lady) or 20 mins (a la unfuck your habitat) or just seek out unjoyful things (a la kondo) and now I have many bags hidden in cupboards so the kids can't see and I need to take them to the charity shop and the local refugee place.

And I need to do some general cleaning stuff too but that's very boring so I'm going to finish my cup of tea first Grin

Productive day: trip to the charity shop, visit to the tip with some garden rubbish and I took everything out of my wardrobe and hoovered out an unbelievable amount of dust.

Also did boring usual stuff (cleaned kitchen, dining room, cleaned windows, fed kids, did a few loads of washing) so I'm tired but I'm pleased!

Today's minor deep clean: the lampshades. Fecking staggering amount of dust and cobwebs on them. Very satisfying to get them clean!
